Asmara, 18 April (ERINA) - As part of its on-going hostile provocative acts, the TPLF regime made futile attempts on the 9th and 11th of April 2005 trying to infiltrate armed groups into Eritrean territory west of Omhajer and carry out acts of harassment against the people and loot property.
In a statement it issued today in connection with the TPLF regime’s growing acts of hostility on the border areas, the Commission in charge of Coordination with UNMEE pointed out that during confrontation with the armed groups deployed by the regime to carry out acts of harassment on sovereign Eritrean territory, and in the ensuing clashes with the Eritrean militia, the intruders were forced to withdraw with 4 dead and 1 captured. Reports said that UNMEE forces in the area had witnessed this incident and the casualties.
As usual, however, the TPLF regime denied this incident. The Eritrean Commission for Coordination with UNMEE underlined that this is the usual provocative patterns of the TPLF regime and called on the Eritrean people to be vigilant and heighten their readiness.
It is to be noted that the regime, as part of its preparations to unleash another round of war, has been amassing troops along the border, in sovereign Eritrean territories it continues to occupy in contravention of international law and rejecting the border demarcation process.
