14th Independence Anniversary Celebrations of Eritrea officially began yesterday May 14th 2005 at the Odeon theatre here in Asmara. Reports further indicated that the streets of the capital have been bedecked with lights that have created a glittering festive atmosphere in the main avenues of Asmara inline with the opening ceremony held at the Odeon theatre.

Two dramas that reflected the principles and values of the historic event as well as the martyrdom and resilience of Eritreans were staged in addition to four songs performed in relation to the current state of affairs of the country at the theatre.

Reports further indicated that the celebrations that will underline the notable day when Eritrean revolutionary fighters vehemently demised the colonial rule in Eritrea will continue until the 24th of May.

The celebrations will also highlight various cultural and musical performances in the main streets of Asmara in addition to honorary guards and marching bands, fireworks, community get-togethers, and various sports activities.

ERINA correspondents in all corners of the country also indicated that massive preparations are underway in their respective regions to enthusiastically celebrate Independence Day.
