President Isaias holds talks with Dr. John Garang

Asmara, 22 June 2005 (ERINA) -
President Isaias Afwerki reaffirmed Eritrea's continued support towards ensuring peace and stability in the Sudan. The President made the statement when he received and held talks in Asmara yesterday with the leader of the Sudanese People's Liberation Movement (SPLM), Dr. John Garang.

At the meeting, the SPLM/A leader gave detailed briefing on the general situation in the Sudan, the agreements reached and the meeting between the Sudanese government and the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) that was held on June 20 in Cairo, Egypt. President Isaias expressed Eritrea's readiness to do all in its power to promote the effective implementation of all the agreements reached among Sudanese nationals.

Present at the meeting were the Secretary of the PFDJ, Mr. Al-Amin Mohammed Seid, and the Minister of Defence, Gen. Sebhat Ephrem.
