Asmara, 21 April 2005 (ERINA) -
In continuation of the discussion forum organized by the PFDJ Central Office, heads from different ministries, Army commanders, administrators, Assembly members, representatives of the Front and associations held discussions in two separate places here in the capital, namely at the Teacher Training Institute (TTI) and Expo Hall.
Mr. Al-Amin Mohammed Seid, PFDJ Secretary, and Mr. Zemhret Yohannes, Head of Research and Documentation at the PFDJ, respectively presided over the discussions conducted at the TTI. Similarly, Mr. Yemane Gebreab, Head of Political Affairs at the PFDJ, and Mr. Hagos Gebrehiwet, Head of Economic Affairs at the PFDJ, respectively presided over the discussions at the Expo Hall.
In their opening remarks, the PFDJ officials noted that the Front succeeded in making independence a reality thanks to its strength based on the people and clear vision. They stressed that at the present moment of resistance and development drive, there is no doubt that we will emerge victorious through dedicated and selfless endeavors based on clear vision aimed at ensuring social justice.
The participants of the forum held open discussions in groups and put forth constructive views and opinions. Giving priority to safeguarding national sovereignty and improving the people's standard of living, the participants underlined that while continuing the peace effort, the general public and members of the Defense Force need to be ready to meet any eventuality. Furthermore, the participants stressed, among other things, hard work based on the principle of self-reliance towards attaining food security.
Similar discussion forums have already been conducted in Gash-Barka, Anseba, Southern and Central administrative regions.
It is to be recalled that in his opening address to participants of the Discussion Forum on April 12, President Isaias Afwerki underscored that the main objective of the forum is to make comprehensive and critical assessment of the experiences acquired in the past in all sectors, and thereby reach assessment that would enable us to carry out more effective work in the future.
