Senior government officials inspect SWP activities

Senior government officials that include the Minister of Agriculture, Mr. Arefaine Berhe, the Minister of Education, Mr. Osman Saleh, and the Administrator of the Central region, Mr. Semere Russom, inspected development activities in the Central region being carried out through the Summer Work Program (SWP). They inspected activities in the areas of Demsebai and Shimanegus being undertaken by student participants of the program.
During their tour of inspection, the officials asserted that effective work in soil and water conservation is in progress. Highlighting the significance of planting trees to promote sound ecology, they called on all farmers who directly benefit from the program to take active role in the campaign.
As part of the Summer Work Program, students deployed in Demsebai have so far constructed 130-km.long embankments and terracing, while they planted around 120 thousand tree seedlings. The Ministry of Agriculture’s branch office in the Central region prepared around 1.7 million different tree seedlings at a cost of over 1 million Nakfa. More than 4,500 students, 91 teachers and agricultural experts are taking part in SWP activities in the region.
