Mai-Aini sub-zone: Efforts to control communicable diseases registering encouraging outcome

Mai-Aini, 23 April 2010 - The strenuous efforts being exerted to control communicable diseases in Mai-Aini sub-zone are registering fruitful outcome, Stated Mr. Berhe Kesete, head of the Health Ministry’s branch in the sub-zone.

Speaking at an assessment meeting in which representatives of ministries’ branch offices, members of Assembly and the PFDJ, as well as representatives of associations took part, he outlined the tasks accomplished last year. Mr. Berhe indicated that various lectures and campaign were undertaken in every administrative area to raise public awareness regarding ways of preventing and controlling sexually transmitted diseases, malaria and diarrhea, as well as pre-and post-delivery medical checkups.  As a result, he explained that mother’s mortality rate during delivery and malaria infection have been reduced by over half percent. 

The head of communicable diseases control unit in the Ministry’s branch in the Southern region, Mr. Asefaw Gebremichael, highlighted on his part the significance of vaccination programs, maintaining environmental sanitation and nutritious diet, as well as regular medical checkup in promoting public health.
