Ministry embarks on construction of schools across the country

As part of the educational development program, the Ministry of Education has embark on the construction of a number of schools and related tasks in various parts of the country at a total cost of USD 29 million, according to  Mr. Mebrahtu Gilagabir, in charge of the educational development program.

Asmara, 28 April 2010 – As part of the educational development program, the Ministry of Education has embark on the construction of a number of schools and related tasks in various parts of the country at a total cost of USD 29 million, according to  Mr. Mebrahtu Gilagabir, in charge of the educational development program. 

The construction project comprises 30 junior schools, 16 secondary schools, 10 teachers training centers, 60 teachers’ dormitory and additional classrooms in 30 schools across the country. The program also involves popular participation and national, as well as international construction companies. Mr. Mebrahtu further noted the significance of the program as regards ensuring equitable distribution of educational opportunities, the promotion of know-how and skill upgrading, in addition to enhancing the capacity of teachers and reinforcing the learning-teaching process.

Eng. Samuel Nemariam from the educational development program office on his part explained that the first phase of the project is scheduled to be finalized within three months.

In line with the Education Ministry’s development program, which got underway in 2007, 67 schools have already been constructed within three months.
