Pictorial exhibition by Information Ministry opens

A pictorial exhibition staged by the Ministry of Information in connection with the 19th anniversary of Independence Day opened here in the capital yesterday. The Secretary of the PFDJ, Mr. Al-Amin Mohammed Seid, opened the exhibition.

Asmara, 21 May 2010 – A pictorial exhibition staged by the Ministry of Information in connection with the 19th anniversary of Independence Day opened here in the capital yesterday. The Secretary of the PFDJ, Mr. Al-Amin Mohammed Seid, opened the exhibition.

The exhibition being staged at the Municipality Hall comprises about 100 photographs portraying the trying moments of the armed struggle and the steadfastness of the people and the freedom fighters.

The Minister of Public Works, Mr. Abraha Asfaha, expressed deep impression with the pictures that depict the challenges the Eritrean people had traversed, the heavy sacrifices paid and the hardships the freedom fighters gone through. In this respect, he lauded the Information Ministry for properly documenting such a heritage, as it could make major impact on the young generation.

Mr. Habtom Berhe, one of the first cameramen during the days of the armed struggle, said on his part that the struggle involved not only firearms but cameras as well.

Likewise, the head of the photography branch in the Ministry, Mr. Taezaz Abraha, indicated that the pictures being depicted at the exhibition comprise the years 1976 to 1991, and stressed its significance as regards bequeathing the history of the armed struggle to the young generation.

The pictorial exhibition would remain open to the public until May 24.
