Encouraging outcome in eradicating harmful practices

The efforts to eradicate the harmful practices that have been physically and psychologically affecting women in the Southern region has resulted encouraging outcome.

 

Mendefera, 12 December 2017- The efforts to eradicate the harmful practices that have been physically and psychologically affecting women in the Southern region has resulted encouraging outcome. The report was made at a meeting conducted on 8 December in Mendefera organized by the NUEW office.

At the meeting in which representatives from the 12 sub-zones in the region took part, it was reported that the number of members of the union has reached to 97 thousand and that is 41% from the number of women from the age 18 to 65 that should have joined the union.

It was also reported that as part of the effort to encourage the participation of female students’ school enrolment, material and financial support has been extended to disadvantaged female students in Areza sub-zone.

The head of the NUEW branch in the Southern region, Ms. Aberash Hibtai commending the initiative and participation of women in the implementation of the set out programs, called for timely repayment of the loan received from the union.
