Exemplary water and soil conservation activity

Commending the strong effort conducted in water and soil conservation activities in the Anseba Region, Mr. Arefaine Berhe, Minister of Agriculture called for more efforts with a view to boost productivity.

Keren, 30 December 2017 - Commending the strong effort conducted in water and soil conservation activities in the Anseba Region, Mr. Arefaine Berhe, Minister of Agriculture called for more efforts with a view to boost productivity.

Minister Arefaine made the comment at an assessment meeting the Ministry of Agriculture branch in the region held on December 27 in the city of Keren.

Minister Arefaine explained  that applying select seeds and crops rotation is crucial, he called on agricultural experts to make follow up and provide advice for farmers for better outcome.

According to reports presented at the meeting, about 230 Km. long of terraces have been constructed and 71 Km. long terraces renovated through popular campaigns and students’ summer work program. The  dams worth 10 million Nakfa have been constructed in Bashiri, Gerbeshku and Keren. It was also reported that 167 families have been provided with dairy cows, bee hives, tree seedlings, chicks and smokeless ovens.

The participants conducted extensive discussion on the reports presented and adopted different recommendations.
