Call for reinforcing effort in water and soil conservation

Mr. Arefaine Berhe, Minister of Agriculture, said that soil and water conservation has significant contribution in boosting agricultural production and called on administrators to give utmost consideration and encourage residents to conduct sustainable popular campaigns to that end.

Barentu, 02 January 2018- Mr. Arefaine Berhe, Minister of Agriculture, said that soil and water conservation has significant contribution in boosting agricultural production and called on administrators to give utmost consideration and encourage residents to conduct sustainable popular campaigns to that end.

At an assessment meeting conducted on 29 December in Barentu, Minister Arefaine called for strengthening soil and water conservation popular campaigns, applying crop rotation as well as natural fertilizer and pesticides with a view to augment production.

At the meeting reports were presented regarding crops, vegetables and fruits development, milk and meat, bee and poultry farming, soil and water conservation, livestock health and other activities conducted in the region and the impact they had in improving the lives of the public.

The participants held extensive discussion on the reports presented and expressed readiness to reinforce participation in the development of agricultural activities in the region.

The Governor of the region, Mr. Fesehaye Haile on his part called for strengthening vegetables and fruits cultivation and water diversion schemes for enhanced production.
