Workshop on activities of Social Welfare

The Ministry of Labor and Human Welfare branch in the Gash Barka region conducted a six month activity assessment meeting in Barentu.

Barentu, 7 June 2018 – The Ministry of Labor and Human Welfare branch in the Gash Barka region conducted a six month activity assessment meeting in Barentu.

At the workshop, extensive discussion was conducted on various issues including activities exerted to ensure social justice, social welfare, and labor, among others.

It was also indicated that in the past six months the government has disbursed 9.4 million Nakfa and that nationals inside and outside the country have contributed material and monetary support worth 650 thousand Nakfa to families of the martyrs’. Briefing was also provided with regards work regulations, relationship between employers and employees as well as on the creation of employment opportunities.

According to reports presented at the workshop, it was underscored that campaigns were conducted to prevent harmful practices and ensuring the rights of children, that research was conducted on 2500 families of the martyrs and their caretakers that 17 families of the martyrs have been rehabilitated, and that effort is being made to rehabilitate 1384 others with horses and carts.

The head of the Ministry of Labor and Human Welfare branch in the Gash Barka region, Mr. Eyob Kidane stated that more effort will be exerted to help disadvantaged citizens in the region become self-sufficient.

The D.G. of the Department of Social Services in the Gash Barka region, Mr. Franko Kubaba on his part, calling for integrated effort to ensure social welfare expressed readiness of the regional administration to play due part for the success of the program.
