Eritrea Finalized Preparations To Host CECAFA Tournament

Preparations to host the CECAFA games have been finalized in collaboration with all the relevant sectors as well as the people, according to Maj. General Romodan Osman Awlyay, the Eritrean Sports Commissioner.

Asmara, 12 August 2010 –Preparations to host the CECAFA games have been finalized in collaboration with all the relevant sectors as well as the people, according to Maj. General Romodan Osman Awlyay, the Eritrean Sports Commissioner.

Indicating that the necessary infrastructural, logistic and other basic provisions have been made ready, Maj. General Romodan said that the Eritrean national football team is under intensive training and that all the players are in good condition. 

Talking about the advantages for Eritrea as a host country, Maj. General Romodan said that it is a great opportunity for promoting Eritrea's principles of peace, friendship and equality in sports. Hosting the games will also provide excellent grounds to highlight Eritrea's natural resources while at the same time stimulating the youth's passion for sports and reviving the country's sports, he added.

Noting that the Eritrean Commission of Sport in collaboration with various government bodies and partners is striving to highlight Eritrea's image using the opportunity, the Maj. General expressed conviction that the hospitality of the Eritrean people would be vividly reflected.  

The CECAFA games for under 20 - which would be open from August 14 to 18  under the theme ‘Development and Friendship’ will participate the national teams of Eritrea, Tanzania, Sudan, Kenya, Somalia, Uganda, Rwanda and Zanzibar,  as well as Yemen as a guest team. The national teams have already begun arriving in Eritrea.
