Weeding activities underway in Sutur Agricultural Project

The inhabitants of Hamelmalo administrative area and members of the Defense Force in the area are carrying out weeding activities in Sutur Agricultural Project. The participants of the campaign told ERINA that the undertaking is in line with their continued endeavors to boost agricultural production. Hamelmalo, 13 August 2010 - The inhabitants of Hamelmalo administrative area and members of the Defense Force in the area are carrying out weeding activities in Sutur Agricultural Project. The participants of the campaign told ERINA that the undertaking is in line with their continued endeavors to boost agricultural production.

They further explained that previously the harvest obtained from the project used to be unsatisfactory due to poor amount and distribution of rainfall, as well as wild plant mushrooming. At present, however, bumper harvest is expected thanks to the prevailing good rainy season and the carrying out of weeding activities, they added.

Noting that they would redouble endeavors towards further developing the Sutur Agricultural Project, the participants of the campaign stated that the activities is part and parcel of the on-going development programs being implemented across the nation to ensure economic emancipation.

The Administrator of Hamelmalo semi-urban center, Mr. Idris Mohammed Ali, indicated on his part that the weeding activities being undertaken in the project through the active participation of the people and EDF members is essentially aimed at obtaining bumper harvest, and thus achieve food security. He went on to say that select seeds which were experimented and borne fruitful outcome in Hamelmalo Agricultural College are being sown in Sutur Agricultural Project.
