Development Activities Underway in Senafe Sub-Zone

The inhabitants of Serha semi-urban center and Mai-Tera, Senafe sub-zone, carried out development activities focusing on construction of water catchments, reforestation and renovation of road networks, as well as construction of school premises. Senafe, 18 August 2010 - The inhabitants of Serha semi-urban center and Mai-Tera, Senafe sub-zone, carried out development activities focusing on construction of water catchments, reforestation and renovation of road networks, as well as construction of school premises.

Over 10,000 tree seedlings have so far been planted in the two localities through popular campaign, in addition to the construction of 15,000 cubic meters of embankments and about 20,000 terraces. A road running from Mai-Tsaeda to Kokobai villages has also been repaired, besides the clearing up of silt deposits from a water reservoir in Serha semi-urban center.

The Administrator of the semi-urban center, Mr. Kebede Tesfamichael, indicated that the campaign is essentially aimed at conserving every drop of rain, and thereby boost agricultural production.

The Administrator of Mai-Tera, Mr. Kahsa Gebregergis, said on his part that the area is endowed with fertile soil and that the contribution of such popular campaign in raisin productivity is not to be viewed lightly.

The participants of the campaign explained that they have been engaging in the construction of embankments and terraces beginning six year ago, and that satisfactory outcome has already been registered. They further highlighted the need for continuing such development activities in an enhanced manner.
