Micro-dam under construction in Gizgiza

A micro-dam is under construction in Gizgiza administrative area, Hamelmalo sub-zone, at an expenditure of 3 million Nakfa so as to ease potable water supply problem in the area.
Hamelmalo, 25 April 2010 - A micro-dam is under construction in Gizgiza administrative area, Hamelmalo sub-zone, at an expenditure of 3 million Nakfa so as to ease potable water supply problem in the area.

The supervisor of the project, Mr. Bihmot Ainalem, indicated that the task is being undertaken through the coordinated endeavors of the people and the Anseba regional Administration. On top of its contribution in providing potable water supply to the local inhabitants, the micro-dam is expected to irrigate the nearby 26 hectares, he elaborated.

Noting that there are a number of feeder streams flowing to the micro-dam, Mr. Bihmot explained that efforts are being stepped up to finalize the project before the onset of the rainy season.

The Administrator of Gizgiza administrative area, Mr. Mohammed Idris Ahmed, on his part explained that the local inhabitants have been encountering acute potable water supply problem, and that the construction of the micro-dam would play vital role in alleviating such a problem. He further lauded the dedication of the inhabitants in the construction of the project.

Reports indicated that the local inhabitants used to travel for almost 2 hours to fetch water that was not even up to standard.
