Society Called On For Enhanced Role In Adopting Blood Donation As Culture Among The Youth

In a meeting held to mark World Blood Donors Day on June 14 in the Orota Referral Hospital, the need for enhanced role of society so as to adopt blood donation as culture among youths was highlighted. Asmara, 13 June 2010 – In a meeting held to mark World Blood Donors Day on June 14 in the Orota Referral Hospital, the need for enhanced role of society so as to adopt blood donation as culture among youths was highlighted.

Speaking at the occasion, Director of Eritrean National Blood Bank Transfusion Center, Dr. Yifdeamlak Tesfamariam, noted the importance of donating safe blood in saving lives and called on all able nationals to play their due role at a time when blood donation continues to be an important medical phenomenon.

Stating that this year’s commemoration was unique as volunteer donors were organized in clubs, Dr. Yifdeamlak said that the National Blood Center is hopes to move forward from family based blood donations.

The representative of volunteer blood donors club said that two third of blood demand of the country are obtained from volunteer blood donors according to the report of the Eritrean National Blood Bank. He went to say that the members of the club would redouble their efforts to enhance the number of volunteer donors.

During the occasion a drama was staged which highlighted the importance of volunteer blood donation.

World Blood Donors Day June 14 was marked for the 6th time in Eritrea.
