Dige sub-zone: Parents called upon to send their children to school

In a meeting  he held with the inhabitants of Dige sub-zone, the Administrator of the sub-zone, Mr. Saleh Haji, called on parents to send their children to school and properly follow up their academic pursuit so as to promote student participation in education, especially females.  
Dige, 26 July 2010 - In a meeting  he held with the inhabitants of Dige sub-zone, the Administrator of the sub-zone, Mr. Saleh Haji, called on parents to send their children to school and properly follow up their academic pursuit so as to promote student participation in education, especially females.  

He indicated that the Government’s endeavors to expand equitable educational opportunities in all parts of the country are bearing fruitful outcome, and called on the inhabitants to make good use of the available opportunity.

The head of basic education in the Education Ministry’s branch in Gash-Barka region, Ms. Nejat Ibrahim, explained that cultural hurdles, low societal awareness and living standard are the main factors contributing to low student participation in education. In this respect, she stressed the need for undertaking intensive public awareness raising campaign.

Ms. Nejat further noted that a committee has already been set up at the regional level with a view to tackling such problems.
