Eritreans are Rallying behind H.R. 2760
Eritreans all over the United States are rallying behind H.R. 2760 (Resolution of the Ethiopia-Eritrea Border Dispute Act of 2003), which calls for limited assistance to a country that doesnít implement the decision of the Eritrean Ethiopian Border Commission. Here we find Eritreans acting as Ambassadors of their beloved country. As usual Eritrean Americans are lobbying for this just cause, supporting H.R. 2760 and urging their representativesí support. The momentum has reached itsí peak. Many Eritrean websites, radio programs, newsletters, TV programs, household conversations, meetings, and social events are preoccupied with the story of this time, H.R. 2760. The representatives are getting overwhelmed by the request to support H.R. 2760. Eritreans are meeting, writing letters, calling, and emailing their representatives to make them aware of H.R. 2760. For those of you who havenít contacted your representatives, we suggest you call your representativeís office and ask if a decision has been made to support H.R. 2760.
As we repeatedly stated we donít intend the internet to be our only medium for communicating our message. Moreover, we are not by any means including the signatures we collected in person in this online petition drive. We already have thousands of signatures being collected that are not shown on these petitions. For example, in Seattle alone, 700 signatures have been collected in public gatherings. The lists go on. Eritreans are distributing the phone numbers of the representatives of each district of their State with instructions being posted in restaurants, churches, Mosques, ìTsebelî, ìUKubî, Baptism, Weddings, etc. Not only are they collecting signatures and distributing instructions, they are also educating and organizing events so that representatives can come and make friends with Eritreans. Eritreans are also educating Americans about this issue at work, such as taxi drivers by distributing pamphlets to their passengers.
As many of you already know, H.R. 2760 was passed unanimously by the U.S. House of Representatives, House African Subcommittee. Now, it is in the hands of the governing committee, House Committee on International Relations. In order to make the bill the priority of the committee, we call on all Eritreans and friends of Eritrea who reside in the congressional districts listed below to contact and urge their House Committee on International Relationsí members to pass the bill to the U.S. House of Representatives. This should be done with out delay. The phone numbers are for their Washington, DC offices. To find out which congressional district you live in, follow the instructions listed at www.eritreanvision.org. On this website, you can find complete information, including the letter itself. We would like to see other Eritrean websites to post similar information.
As a continuation of the previous petition and as per request from many Eritreans, we will extend the petition to include Maryland, California, Minnesota, and Washington State. We can always extend the lists. As many of you already have done, please try to include this in local email lists. If you need any help, please contact us at Erimarylanders@yahoo.com.
THE MORALE OF THE STORY IS ìDO NOT MESS WITHî ERITREA.
