Cooperative Agreement Concluded Between The Northern Red Sea Region And Sudanese Red Sea Region
Massawa, 14 February 2010 – A cooperative agreement was reached yesterday in the port city of Massawa between the Northern Red Sea Region and the Sudanese Red Sea region as part of the efforts to boost relations between the two regions.
The agreement was
signed by the Administrator of Northern Red Sea region, Ms. Tsegereda Woldegiorgis, and the Administrator of the Sudanese Red Sea region, Dr. Mohammed Tahir Ela.
The agreement which creates conducive grounds for mutually beneficial cooperation between the regions will encompass trade, transportation, fisheries, tourism, culture, sport and other sectors.
In a statement she gave at the occasion, Ms. Tsegereda noted that the agreement was a continuation of bilateral cooperative relations and that the beginning of direct Port Sudan-Asmara flights is a practical demonstration of the developing relations.
Expressing his appreciation to the hospitality extended by the people of the region, Dr. Mohamed on his part underscored that their participation in the commemoration of 20th anniversary of Operation Fenkil demonstrates the growing of relations between Eritrea and Sudan in general and the regions of Sudanese Red Sea and Eritrean Northern Red Sea in particular. He went on to say that the agreement would play paramount role in enhancing socio-economic and cultural ties between the two people.
The 20-member delegation headed by Dr. Mohamed Tahir Ela conducted a tour in different institutions of Massawa and historical sites.
