Wall constructed in Massawa to maintain city sanitation and preserve the coastline
Massawa, 17 February 2010 - As part of efforts to promote sanitation in Massawa city and preserve the coastline, a wall has been constructed in Tiwalet at a cost of over 7 million Nakfa.
The Administrator of the port city, Ms. Fana Tesfamariam, said that the task was accomplished in a short period as a result of close coordination on the part of the city administration, government institutions, the general public, concerned individuals and national construction companies, especially Mussa Ali Company. She further commended the active participation of city residents in general and mothers in particular.
The coordinator of the project, Eng. Yosief Gebremichael, explained that the defensive wall is over 500-meter long and that a 1,500-meter long sidewalk has been put in place.
He went on to say that a seaway has been made available and that over 600 crafted stones have been utilized for durability of the wall.
It is to be recalled that “Green Land” was designated in the port city at an expenditure of over 6.5 million Nakfa.
