Asmara, 25 2010 – President Isaias Afwerki returned home yesterday after attending the First Framework Agreement between the Sudanese government and the Darfuri armed group Justice and Equality Moment on the basis of the  initiative taken by Qatar.

During the signing ceremony in Doha on February 23, Presidents Isaias Afwerki, Omar Hassen Al-Beshir of Sudan, Idris Debi of Chad and the Emir of Qatar, Sheikh Hamid Bin Khalifa Al-Thani took part.

In the ceremony, President Isaias stressed the need for mediators or facilitators to enhance their role so as to achieve a lasting solution to the Darfur problem. The Emir of Qatar on his part lauded the efforts exerted by President Isaias in promoting peace and stability in Sudan, and called on other groups in Darfur to join the peace process so as to achieve a comprehensive and lasting peace.

It is to be noted that the President left for Doha on February 23 to participate in the First Framework Agreement as regards the Darfur issue.
