Adult Education Program gaining momentum: Ministry
Asmara, 16 January 2013 – The Ministry of Education said that Adult Education Program, which was launched in the year 2,000 nationwide, has gained momentum. Accordingly, more than 600,000 nationals have become beneficiaries of the program within 10 years, giving rise to vitality for more gratifying accomplishment in the future.
Pointing out that the age of the program’s target group ranges from 15 to 45 with more inclination on females, Mr. Tiquabo Ayimut, head of curriculum planning and development in the Ministry, explained that the government has been making substantial investment in this regard with a view to ensuring restitution of citizens who did not get educational opportunity at the right time.
The teachers engaged in implementing the program involving 8 local languages are working in their native villages, and 80% of the country’s population is presently estimated to be literate, according to reports.
“The three years ahead comprise a period during which the Ministry would reinforce endeavors to this end so as to register more rewarding outcome. We call on enhanced collaboration of the pertinent bodies,” said Mr. Tiquabo.
