Inhabitants of Forto-Sawa called upon to strive for effective utilization of available resources
Shambuko, 13 March 2010 - The Administrator of Gash-Barka region, Mr. Mussa Rab’a, called on the inhabitants of Forto-Sawa sub-zone to effectively utilize the rainfall and irrigation resources in the region, and thereby improve their standard of living.
In a meeting with area administrators, village elders, representatives of the people and heads of government institutions, he indicated that the local inhabitants are made good progress as regards irrigation farming, and that their agricultural output is making due contribution in stabilizing the market in major urban centers.
Noting that strenuous endeavors are being exerted to expand equitable social services in remote areas, Mr. Mussa stressed the need for taking concerted action to promote active student participation in education, especially females.
The participants of the meeting adopted a number of resolutions and recommendations highlighting the need for renovating the Kulentebai and Ashenda water diversion schemes, promote vegetation along the banks of Ruba Sawa and the like.
Likewise, in a meeting with the regional Administrator, the inhabitants of Shambuko sub-zone noted the need for renovating the Shambuko-Barentu road and preparing a master plan for Shambuko which continues getting urbanized.
