6th YPFDJ Conference underway in Berlin
Asmara, 2 April 2010 - The 6th Youth PFDJ Conference is underway in Berlin, Germany, with the participation of youths from inside the country and the Diaspora. The conference being held from April 1 to 5in connection with the 40th anniversary of the founding of the People’s Front is being attended by over 600 youths from different countries in Europe, the Middle East, the USA and Canada, as well as Eritrea.
It aims at assessing the work accomplishments of the YPFDJ at the global level and map out strategy and mechanism towards laying the groundwork for greater achievements. Various programs, including lectures, workshops and the like with a view to nurturing common understating are being featured.
In an opening speech, the guest of honor, Mr. Woldenkiel Abraha, Minister of Transport and Communications, stated that a number of countries in the contemporary world are striving to promote social justice and ensure peace and stability in which Eritrea is playing a forefront role.
He further noted that the strong organizational capacity and maturity of the present youths at home and abroad is bequeathed from past forums of struggle. Mr. Woldenkiel went on to recall that the 1st Munich Conference held 40 years ago was a driving force for bringing together Eritrean nationalists from various countries. Besides, it paved the way for the establishment of mass organizations in Europe under the umbrella of the People’s Front, he added.
Also speaking on the occasion, Mr. Yemane Gebreab, Head of Political Affairs at the PFDJ, pointed out that the holding of the present conference marks a clear response to all enemy acts of conspiracy and hostility. He also emphasized the need for Eritrean youths to brace up for greater work accomplishments and strong organizational capacity. The Chairperson of the organizing committee of the conference, Ms. Rut Futsum, stated that the YPFDJ managed to deepen awareness, strengthen the structure and organizational capacity, enhance contact networks and develop foreign relations.
It is to be recalled that the YPFDJ was established in the German city of Bilifeld in 2005 with a view to nurturing a vibrant national youth movement, and thereby make due contribution in reinforcing organizational affairs.
