All Students of 50 Schools in Remote Areas Scored Passing Mark in This Year’s Grade 8 National Exams
Asmara, 4 August 2010 - Out of the 56 schools in which all of their students scored a passing mark in this year’s Grade 8 National Examination, the 50 schools are located in remote areas of the country, according to the Education Ministry’s reports.
Those schools that promoted all of their students in the exams include Jani Junior School, Kermet, Enchinaq and Himbol in the Anseba region; Egla Junior School, Safira, Guhchi’a, Lahyo and Menekuseito in the Southern region; Aderde, Hawashait and Molober in Gash-Barka region; Felket, Jemhile, Erafaile, Buya, Dankur and Agra’e schools in the Northern Red Sea region; Azen and Geshinashim junior schools in the Central region.
The report further indicated that the achievement registered fully attests to the substantial investment being made in the education sector. It is to be noted that 21 junior schools have been constructed at an expenditure of about 135 million Nakfa over the past couple of years, which in turn increased the expansion of junior schools in remote areas by over 350%.
About 152,000 schools attended junior schools in the 2009/2010 academic year that indicates growth of 444% over the past 19 years. The number of teachers has equally increased by 378%, the reports added.
