Homib Plant Boosts Dairy Cattle Production

Haikota, 5 August 2010 – The Alebu-based Homib Agricultural Development Plant in Haikota sub-zone is boosting dairy cattle production through breeding devices that adapt to the prevailing climatic condition in the country.

Mr. Omar Mohammed, an employee in the plant, told ERINA that it has managed to increase the number of cattle from 50 at the beginning to about 300 at present, and that the breeding process is registering encouraging outcome. He also pointed out that the outcome of breeding buffalo is satisfactory.

Mr. Mohammed Seid from the Eritrean Defense Force said on his part that the dairy cattle are highly resistant to disease. He also added that the inhabitants of Alebu and Adi-Gebesh are the main beneficiaries of the products.
