Effective Soil And Water Conservation Activities Underway In Northern Red Sea Region


Massawa, 19 August 2010 – In line with endeavors to improve the living standard of farmers, effective soil and water conservation activities, as well as water diversion schemes are being carried out in the Northern Red Sea region.

Accordingly, the renovation of water diversion path damaged by river waters flowing from the highlands in the sub-zones of Afabet, She’ib and Ginda is being stepped up through the concreted effort of government agencies and partners, as well as the farming community in the area.

Reports also disclosed that a new water diversion scheme has been constructed so as to put under cultivation about 2,500 hectares in the administrative areas of Shebah, Metkelabet and Gahtelai in Ginda sub-zone.
