Foreign Minister delivers President’s message to Syrian leader

Asmara, 30 April 2008 – The Eritrean Foreign Minister, Mr. Osman Saleh, today delivered a message from President Isaias Afwerki to President Bashar Al-Assad of Syria. The message focuses on developing bilateral relations and regional as well as international issues of mutual concern to Eritrea and Syria.
In the meeting in Damascus, Mr. Osman Saleh conveyed President Isaias’ message of greetings to President Bashar Al-Assad and the Syrian people. The Foreign Minister also held discussion with the Syrian leader on the existing brotherly relations between the two countries and ways of enhancing cooperation in different fields.
President Bashar Al-Assad expressed goodwill to President Isaias and the Eritrean people.
Moreover, Mr. Osman Saleh held similar talks with the Syrian Vice President, Faruk Asherie, Foreign Minister Welid Al-Mualim, and the Deputy Foreign Minister, Faissal Al-Mikdad. The two sides reached understanding on the need for holding continuous follow-up and activities so as to further develop bilateral relations in all domains. To this end, they agreed that a Syrian government delegation visit Eritrea soon for conducting extensive exchange of views.
