Halhale, 23 July 2008 - A Green House laboratory within the premises of the Halhale National Institute of Agriculture on experimenting with different plants was inaugurated recently through the collaboration of the Eritrean and Chinese governments.
The laboratory includes water tankers with a capacity of holding over 15,000 liters for irrigation farming. The Green House facility is aimed at producing potato seedlings locally, which used to be purchased from abroad through disbursing substantial hard currency.
Speaking at the inauguration ceremony, the Minister of Agriculture, Mr. Arefaine Berhe, pointed out that the setting up of the Green House attests to the all-round cooperation of the PRC with Eritrea. He further lauded Chinese cooperation, especially in sending agricultural experts and introducing modern farming methods.
Mr. Beyene Tesfagaber, an expert in tissue culture at the laboratory, said on his part that the newly established facility is a continuation of the Institute’s efforts to supply select seeds to the farming community.
The Chinese Ambassador to Eritrea, Mr. Shu Shian, who inaugurated the Green House, stated that bilateral cooperation in the domain of agriculture would be enhanced.
