Asmara, 25 November 2008 - The first assessment symposium on art works in the Tigre language would be conducted here in the capital from November 19 to 21, according to Mr. Saleh Mahmoud, chairman of the preparatory committee.
The symposium is aimed at assessing the progress and quality of artistic performance in the Tigre language, exploring ways of seeking market and funding for art works, preserving and strengthening cultural and ethical values embodied in the Tigre language, encouraging and nurturing young artists, as well as gathering and documenting folk tales in the language.
Mr. Saleh indicated that more than 450 invited guests from inside the country and abroad would participate in the symposium organized by the Cultural Affairs Department at the PFDJ. Eight study papers would also be presented, including the role of arts in societal identity, intellectual property copyright and its impact in societal progress and artistic works, origin of traditional and modern melody and poetry in the Tigre language, among others.
Noting that various dramas, poetry recitals and entertainment shows would be staged in the course of the symposium, he called for the collaboration of administrative bodies, government institutions and concerned nationals for the success of the event.
It is to be recalled that a conference on “Uniform Structure of the Tigre language in the Mass Media” organized by the Ministry of Information was conducted in August 2007.
